Classifying Mathematical Expressions Written in MathML

چکیده
In this paper, we study how to automatically classify mathematical expressions written in MathML (Mathematical Markup Language). It is an essential preprocess to resolve analysis problems originated from multi-meaning mathematical symbols. We first define twelve equation classes based on chapter information of mathematics textbooks and then conduct various experiments. Experimental results show an accuracy of 94.75%, by employing the feature combination of tags, operators, strings, and “identifier & operator” bigram. key words: Mathematical Expressions, MathML, Classification.

Access to Mathematical Expressions in MathML for the Blind
For visually handicapped people virtual learning environments are a chance to participate in scientific education, because they can access the written content. However mathematical expressions rendered as raster graphics are not accessible to them. MathML, the web-standard for mathematical notation, provides the possibility to describe mathematical expressions in a textual form. However, it is ...
متن کاملOn-Line Recognition of Mathematical Expressions Using Automatic Rewriting Method
This paper describes our system of on-line recognition of mathematical expressions. Users can input mathematical expressions by handwriting. As soon as a character is written, it is rewritten by neat strokes in an appropriate position and size automatically. This Automatic Rewriting Method improves the accuracy of the structure analysis of the written mathematical expressions. The written mathe...
متن کاملSpeaking MathML: Using Prosody and Context-Sensitive Inferences to Produce Synthesized Speech
Increasingly, electronic documents containing mathematical expressions are being marked-up using Mathematical Markup Language (MathML). MathML is a XML-based markup language recommended since 1998 by the World Wide Consortium (W3C) for the encoding of mathematics on the Internet. Along with the right authoring tools and rendering software, MathML provides a rich solution to the visual display o...
متن کاملVMEXT: A Visualization Tool for Mathematical Expression Trees
Mathematical expressions can be represented as a tree consisting of terminal symbols, such as identifiers or numbers (leaf nodes), and functions or operators (non-leaf nodes). Expression trees are an important mechanism for storing and processing mathematical expressions as well as the most frequently used visualization of the structure of mathematical expressions. Typically, researchers and pr...
متن کاملClassification of Mathematical Expressions for Visually Impaired People
Visually impaired people, face many problems to communicate and to study electronical scientific documents especially those containing mathematics expressions. To provide solutions in this topic, we propose an assistive system to help blind people to categorize mathematical formulas from electronical documents. The system acts on four steps: first the translation of query math formula into Pres...
